Job Overview
The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship is responsible for the stewardship of provincial Crown land and ensures the sustainable management of fish, wildlife, water and other land-based resources. The Ministry works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen and diversify their economies.
In the capacity of a Senior Biologist, implement and support wildlife and/or ecosystems management. While the focus of this position is Northeast Region, the incumbent may be required to support other Resource Management Branch priorities across the Province, as determined by the Senior Executive Director.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in biological sciences or related field and at least six (6) years of related wildlife experience, including field-based biological sampling, analysis and reporting, and providing advice within a regulatory regime; OR,
- A Master’s Degree in biological sciences or related field and at least five (5) years of related wildlife experience, including field-based biological sampling, analysis and reporting, and providing advice within a regulatory regime.
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration (within six (6) months of employment) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in BC with the College of Applied Biologists. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
- Experience assessing and monitoring wildlife populations.
- Three (3) or more years of demonstrated experience supervising a team of staff.
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
- Master’s Degree in the field of wildlife biology.
- Experience leading staff in project or field settings.
- Experience leading staff in strategic developments, objective setting, work planning.
- Experience engaging with external partners and stakeholders.
- Experience interpreting and applying natural resource management legislation and policy.
- Experience working with First Nations on wildlife management including projects, strategic initiatives, collaboration.
- Experience in managing large game.
- Experience in interpretation and application of Wildlife Act, and associated policy and regulations.
Additional Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain a valid British Columbia Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
- Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
- Must be willing and able to conduct field work in all weather conditions and environments. This may include
- travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in camp conditions and operation of a variety of equipment.
- Meet safety standards of WorkSafeBC.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
