Job Overview
The Ministry of Finance plays a key role in establishing, implementing and reviewing government’s economic, fiscal and taxation policies. The Policy & Legislation Division provides policy analysis and advice to the Minister of Finance, Cabinet, the Deputy Minister of Finance, and other senior government officials. The Division is responsible for tax policy, intergovernmental fiscal relations, providing strategic oversight of BC Assessment, administering the annual Property Assessment Review Panel process, financial and corporate sector policy and data analytics, and directs the implementation of related government decisions through development and preparation of legislation.
The Finance Reporting and Enhanced Data Analysis Branch (FREDA) provides data analysis and advice to government in support of policy development and various priority projects. The branch leverages the Ministry of Finance’s data holdings to conduct research, create models, and develop data tools to advance government and ministry policy goals and priorities. This includes a focus on housing, income support programs, fiscal policy, tax policy, and the detection of tax noncompliance.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Certificate or higher in the computer science field plus three years of *related experience.
- An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum three years’ experience working with Structured Query Language (SQL) and/or data engineering programming and/or scripting languages (such as Python, Scala, etc.).
- *Related experience includes a combination of the following:
- Relational and/or object data modeling;
- Data analysis and data cleansing;
- Working with data pipelines;
- Corporate data design, warehousing and/or business area analysis techniques
• Preference may be given to applicants with experience leading project teams.
