This is a restricted lateral posting open to employees who hold a Band 3 base position.
Job Overview:
The Policing and Security Branch (PSB), Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General (PSSG) supports the Minister’s statutory duty to ensure an adequate and effective level of policing and law enforcement is maintained throughout the province by superintending policing, establishing provincial policing standards, and administering public safety initiatives dedicated to the protection of British Columbia. Policing in British Columbia is provided by the RCMP, 11 independent municipal police departments and one First Nations administered police service (Stl’atl’imx Tribal Police). Several agencies, such as the South Coast British Columbia Transit Authority Police Service, Vancouver Airport Authority and Victoria Airport Authority provide supplemental policing, as well as a number of integrated police units and structures operate throughout the province.
The Indigenous, Core Policing, and Contract Management Division operates in a highly specialized, complex, politically-charged and sensitive environment involving federal, provincial, territorial, and municipal governments on a range of complex law enforcement issues and priorities.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- University degree in public policy, law, public administration, social science, political science or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Three (3) years of experience in each of the following:
- Progressive responsibility as a policy analyst and in leading legislative initiatives.
- Conducting research and policy analysis; demonstrated ability to research, plan, analyze and deliver new programs, and legislation.
- Working directly with senior government officials, Ministry executive, and/or related executive offices.
Preference may be given to candidates with experience:
- In a leadership role working on major complex legislation and policy initiatives.
- Researching, analyzing, developing and delivering large and complex policy and legislation initiatives or program reforms at a senior level.
- Working with teams and committees of senior managers or executive across the Ministry and in other Ministries.
- Developing and providing options and policy recommendations to enable decisions.
- Supporting the Minister at either cabinet committees, caucus briefings, opposition briefings and in the legislature.
- Leading consultation or briefings with stakeholders and other levels of government and directing and mentoring junior policy staff.
- A Graduate degree or higher in in public policy, law, public administration, social science, political science or a related field.
- Additional years of experience in any of the requirements above.
