Description

This is a restricted lateral posting open to employees who hold a Grid Level 24 base position. 

Job Overview
The Ecosystems Biologist acts as an expert for the Region’s terrestrial and/or aquatic ecosystems programs. Key activities include: species inventory, habitat surveys, decision support for species and habitat management, permitting support, guidance on species and ecosystem conservation, impact mitigation and restoration.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree in biological sciences or equivalent.
  • Registered (or immediately eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within 6 months of employment.

Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a Professional Biologist (RP Bio) with the College of Applied Biology within 6 months of appointment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be confirmed. If you are not currently registered, advise how you have confirmed with the CAB that you are immediately eligible.

  • Experience in conducting environmental surveys and assessments.

PREFERENCES

  • Experience in reviewing permits, authorizations or other proposals for development and in applying ecological/biological expertise, natural resource legislation, policy and guidance to provide technical recommendations.
  • Experience collaborating and/or consulting with First Nations, local governments, external consultants and the natural resource industry to resolve ecosystem stewardship and resource management issues.
  • Knowledge of local species and ecosystems and experience conducting field sampling, data analysis, recovery planning, and reporting for local species.
  • Experience in statistical analyses and/or GIS analysis and/or ecological modelling.

About this Position:
Two 2 Positions available: 1 (one) permanent position; and 1 (one) 12 month temporary opportunity.
