The Team
The Fraser Metro Centralized Bail Team, based at Surrey South Community Corrections, is comprised of PO14s from across the region and supported by a Local Manager and a Senior Probation Officer. We work diligently to deliver a high level of client service and collaborate with various community partners to support clients in making lasting pro-social change. We have the unique opportunity to work with and learn from several Indigenous communities. The team is supportive and focused on personal and professional growth. The Role
As a Probation Officer 14, you will play a vital role in supervising adults placed on probation, conditional sentences, bail, and other legal orders, ensuring that clients understand and comply with the conditions set by the court. You will monitor client behavior and progress, documenting and reporting any violations to appropriate authorities while also developing personalized case management plans based on assessments of client needs. This includes referrals to critical community resources such as mental health support, addiction counseling, and Indigenous justice services. Additionally, you will assist probation officers with risk assessments, provide specialized bail supervision, and facilitate alternative measures such as community work service or restorative justice initiatives. This role offers the chance to build meaningful connections with the community, participate in diverse and unique initiatives, and provide vital support to individuals at pivotal moments in their lives, making it deeply rewarding.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Completion of a two-year diploma or 60 credits of post-secondary education towards a diploma or degree from a Canadian designated educational institution.
- Successful completion of the Adult Probation Officer pre-requisite course (CORR1000). Exemptions may apply.
- Valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s license or Canadian equivalent with no restrictions.
- Keyboard speed minimum 30 WPM.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- A minimum of 3 months experience as a Probation Officer/Probation Officer 14 in a Community Corrections office.
- A minimum of 6 months experience working with people with complex social, health, or legal needs.
Note: If post-secondary education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services. You must provide a Comprehensive Report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
Provisos / Willingness Statements:
- Willing to work with adult clients who may have multiple legal, health, social, and/or mental health challenges and/or clients who have committed or alleged to have committed criminal acts including intimate partner violence or sexually motivated offences.
- Successful applicants will be required to submit to a driver’s abstract review for the last five-year period.
- Successful applicants will be required to participate in and successfully complete the position’s training requirements.
- Part-time employees may require adjustments to hours of work while on basic training.
- Overnight travel to remote locations and working outside typical work hours may be required.

This is a temporary opportunity until February 1, 2028. This temporary appointment may become permanent.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to one (1) day at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
