The Team
The Purchasing and Procurement Team within BC Corrections is a well-established, collaborative group that supports essential operations through inclusive and thoughtful purchasing practices. In this role, you will lead one direct report and work closely with correctional officers, supervisors, management, and business office staff, valuing diverse perspectives and respectful partnerships. Together, the team’s work has a meaningful impact by ensuring resources are accessible, timely, and responsibly managed to support the organization’s mission.
The Role
The Purchasing Officer plays a key role in keeping operations running smoothly by managing the full procurement process, from tracking inventory and coordinating deliveries to sourcing supplies for programs and ensuring protective equipment is in place to support staff safety. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence
- Two (2) years experience (within the last five (5) years) in a warehouse/stores environment that involved a distribution function
- Experience working with a computer-based inventory control system
- Experience maintaining inventory and purchasing
- Experience with MS Word and Excel
Preference may be given to those with:
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience supervising multiple staff
- Experience working in a correctional centre or similar environment
- Experience with Inmate Benefit Fund and Inmate Work Programs
- Budgeting experience
- Post secondary courses in purchasing management [or a combination of education and experience in purchasing/stock control]
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience (gained within the last five (5) years) within a stores/purchasing environment that involves a distribution function
- Experience with QuickBooks, specifically inventory, purchase orders, and invoicing
- Computer keyboarding proficiency (40 WPM)
- Certificate or coursework in purchasing courses
- Certificate or coursework in computer courses

This position has full time on-site requirements.
