The Team
FrontCounter BC is a client-centric organization that provides a single-window service for natural resource ministry clients. FrontCounter BC helps individuals and businesses learn about and apply for different licences, permits, and other authorizations required to utilize British Columbia’s Natural Resources. 

The FrontCounter BC team within the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship – Permitting Transformation Division is a dynamic and supportive group dedicated to helping clients navigate the permitting process. As a Senior Natural Resource Specialist, you’ll be part of an established team that operates as a one-stop shop for applications across multiple provincial agencies, including Land, Water, and other resource related activities. With offices ranging from nine to twenty staff members, the team thrives on camaraderie and mutual support, working closely with colleagues from other ministries to streamline applications and provide exceptional service to clients. 

The Role
The Senior Natural Resource Specialist acts as the Team Lead for the program, provides supervision, conflict resolution, stakeholder engagement, project management and leadership within the FrontCounter BC office. The position may also lead or provide support to major projects teams (i.e. clean energy teams, project review teams, and mines review teams) or provincial initiatives as required. 

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree in natural resource management or related field, and a minimum of three (3) years’ of related experience in a resource management related field; OR,
  • Diploma in natural resource management or related field, and five (5) years’ of related experience in a resource management related field; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of related education and experience may also be considered.

*Related experience must include all of the following:

  • Experience working in a natural resource management related field.
  • Experience negotiating and interacting positively and respectfully with clients such as: private citizens, communities, First Nations groups, other government agencies and industry.
  • Experience resolving complex problems and controversial issues with tact that may require innovation, adaptation, or deviation from policies.
  • Experience in supervision of staff including assignment of work, attendance management, coaching, mentoring and performance development.

Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

  • Experience working in FrontCounterBC or Ministry Authorizations processing natural resource applications.
  • Experience leading meetings and making presentations to groups.
  • Experience participating in change initiatives and process improvements.
  • Experience supervising staff in a union environment.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
