Job Overview
The timber Pricing Systems specialist’s primary responsibility is to manage the operation of the E-Commerce Appraisal System (ECAS) and the General Appraisal System (GAS).
The position ensures approved timber pricing policies are meticulously analyzed and solutions devised to enable the implementation of the new coast and interior pricing policies in these systems. This involves managing as well as closely analyzing appraisal data submitted by the forest industry and for stumpage determinations and establishing new data requirements from industry. The analysis is carried out by translating appraisal policy changes and analyzing a wide range of forest industry/business factors to establish stumpage variables using complex mathematical and algorithmic formulae to provide code to computer programmers to develop stumpage calculation software.
Other key responsibilities include assisting and supporting the Billing Systems Section Manager in the development of technically sound timber pricing policies, providing reports and data analysis to Auditors and Legal Counsel as well as executing studies to improve Ministry procedures that enhance stumpage calculation efficiencies.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, forestry or in a related field such as in the Natural Resources or Economics.
- A minimum of one year experience in the last five years working in stumpage appraisals and timber pricing systems.
- A minimum of five years’ experience working with complex scientific data and computer system databases and applications and knowledge of the IT development cycle.
- Experience managing and organizing concurrent projects while taking into consideration changing priorities and deadlines, emerging issues, and impacts of decisions.
- Experience leading diverse teams of administrative, technical and professional staff including developing and evaluating performance goals, coaching, team-building, and mentoring.
Preference may be given to candidates with the following experience gained within the last five years:
- One or more years of supervisory experience.
- Experience with BC forest knowledge of industry and ministry applications, legislation.
- Experience with Oracle and SQL databases, table structures, data types and query languages.
- Experience or formal training in advanced structured Query Language (SQL)
- Experience in the use of support software such as XML spy and SQL Developer.
- BRD, test and performance testing development, production migration planning and execution.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
