The Team
Government Communications and Public Engagement (GCPE) is a dynamic, progressive and innovative organization that supports external communication of government in its ongoing dialogue with British Columbians. GCPE leads and coordinates government communications through its three divisions:  Strategic Communications, Communications Operations and Corporate Priorities.

The Role
The Video Producer tells stories that support government communication objectives through video and photography. The Video Producer supports senior government officials, media, and the public by delivering a range of video content including livestreamed events, media availabilities, recorded announcements, greeting videos, and other digital content, and must be able to move seamlessly between high-pressure live production environments and creative digital content work.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as video production, public relations, political science or a communications-related discipline and three (3) years related experience*. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • *Related experience includes:
    • Experience in video/photo production and editing
    • Experience with video storytelling techniques
    • Experience in journalism or media-related field
    • Experience working in communications or marketing-related role
    • Experience working in broadcast production-related role
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in professional communications. Preference may be given to candidates with three or more years of experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in filming and editing video communications. Preference may be given to candidates with four or more years of experience.
  • Experience in longer format visual storytelling, such as profiles, documentaries, or human interest stories.
  • Valid FULL BC driver’s licence (minimum class 5), or an equivalent class driver's license from another province or jurisdiction (or within three months of hire).  Please note that this will be verified at the end of the competition.  * Learners “L” and Novice “N” licence do not meet the job requirement

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • Experience using Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects and Audition; Livestream Studio and Live Video Cloud and other multimedia software as required, based on accepted government and industry standards
  • Experience creating short-form video content optimized for social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and others as required
  • Experience working with senior government officials
  • Experience operating a DSLR camera
  • Live broadcast experience
  • Fluency in another language

About this Position:
There are 2 positions available: 1 position located in Victoria and 1 position located in Vancouver.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
