Description

Job Overview
The Purchasing Officer is responsible for managing and directing the purchasing of goods and equipment, and the maintenance and repair of assets for the correctional centre and, where applicable, supervises and coordinates the warehousing and distribution of goods to various correctional centres by adhering to approved policies for asset control and administration. The Purchasing Officer purchases for the Inmate Benefit Fund, correctional centre work programs, the inmate canteen through the Inmate Benefit Fund Trust Account, and other departments within the correctional centre.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
  • Two years experience (within the last five years) in a warehouse/stores environment that involved a distribution function
  • Experience working with a computer-based inventory control system
  • Experience maintaining inventory and purchasing
  • Experience with MS Word and Excel

Preference may be given to those with:

  • Minimum two years’ experience supervising multiple staff
  • Experience working in a correctional centre or similar environment
  • Experience working with Inmate Benefit Fund and Inmate Work Programs
  • Budgeting experience
  • Post secondary courses in purchasing management (or a combination of education and experience in purchasing/stock control)
  • Minimum three years’ experience (gained within the last five years) within a stores/purchasing environment that involves a distribution function
  • Experience with QuickBooks, specifically inventory, purchase orders, and invoicing
  • Computer keyboarding proficiency (40 WPM)
  • Certificate or coursework in purchasing courses
  • Certificate or coursework in computer courses

Proviso

Required to work in a secure adult custody correctional centre.

This is a temporary opportunity until December 31, 2026.
This position has full time on-site requirements. 
A permanent appointment may result from this temporary appointment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
Enhanced Security Screening will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
