Job Overview
The Geotechnical Inspector is a technical specialist, responsible for ensuring compliance to standards and legislation related to geotechnical aspects of mine site components including tailings impoundments, waste rock dumps, open pit slopes, underground workings, water management facilities and dams, geohazards and building foundations. The geotechnical inspector is responsible for conducting inspections, assisting in investigations and enforcement actions, and providing technical support to the mining industry, public and other government agencies.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in geological, mining, or geotechnical engineering. Preference may be given to advanced degree(s).
- Registered (or immediately eligible for registration within six (6) months) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be made.
- Minimum three (3) years of post-graduation experience in geotechnical engineering or mining engineering. Preference may be given to those with mining experience and those with underground design experience.
- Must have a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
Preference may be given to candidates with one (1) or more of the following:
- Compliance and enforcement regulatory experience.
- Experience with issues management, problem solving, and providing expert advice to industry clients, senior management, internal staff and other agencies.
- Experience designing, assessing or maintaining geotechnical aspects of mine site components, such as, but not limited to: tailings impoundments, waste rock dumps, open pit slopes, underground workings and water management structures.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be available to travel by air, fixed wing, helicopter and overnight on short notice.
- Must be able to climb ladders, walk up and down steep ramps.
- Work in underground conditions using appropriate protective equipment and in environments where exposure to chemical vapours, noise, dust, heat and cold are present.
- May be required to occasionally work evenings and weekends and be exposed to incident scenes involving serious injuries and fatalities.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position can be located in Victoria, Vancouver, Smithers, Prince George, Cranbrook or Kamloops.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
