Job Overview
The Forest Investment Advisor is an expert in the strategic application of scientific knowledge, socio-economic and risk management research, and development of policy options to ensure operational delivery of programs and practices for Ministry of Forests within the area of silviculture and forest carbon. The Forest Investment Advisor is responsible for managing, overseeing and leading the delivery of the Forest Investment Program in Regions across the province. To deliver the FIP projects, the Forest Investment Advisor works with the Forest Investment Specialists, Regional Integrated Investment Specialists, Silviculture Specialists, BC Timber Sales staff, District Stewardship staff, delivery partners to coordinate projects across multiple funding sources and in alignment with Regional and Provincial priorities.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- University degree in forestry, natural resources management, biology, ecology or related field AND minimum 9 years of recent (within the last 12 years) *related work experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
*Related work experience must include:- Delivering multiple large natural resource management projects, AND
- Working in a silviculture or reforestation or wildlife habitat restoration program, AND
- Planning, implementing or managing climate change adaptation and/or mitigation projects.
- Experience in concisely and persuasively writing a range of documents/content such as briefing notes, policy drafts, project charters, planning documents, project evaluation documents, reports, and/or correspondence for senior decision makers
- Experience in preparing and delivering presentations on technical information and concepts
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration*, as a Registered Professional Forester with the Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC).
*Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as a currently Registered Professional member in good standing in another Canadian jurisdiction and able to immediately transfer to the Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as a Registered Professional Forester.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- Experience supervising geographically dispersed technical and/or professional staff
- Experience working with First Nations
- Experience in forest nutrient management
- Experience in wildlife habitat restoration
- Experience in project management
- Experience in liaising with internal and external stakeholders
- Education in climate change adaptation and/or mitigation
Proviso/Willingness Statements
- This position is required to travel periodically.
- Candidates must be able to carry out field work and meet with clients in person, when required.
- Valid BC driver’s license.
- Must be able to maintain membership with the Forest Professionals of British Columbia (FPBC) as a member in good standing.

This position can be based in one of the following locations: Campbell River, Nanaimo, Port McNeill, Port Alberni, Victoria, Daajing Giids, Powell River, Squamish, Surrey, Chilliwack.
Other locations may be considered based on operational requirements.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
