The Team:
The Permitting Transformation Division, Water Authorizations Strategic and Priority Projects team is a collaborative and forward-thinking group within the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship, focused on modernizing how natural resource authorizations are delivered. Working at the intersection of policy, science, and service delivery, the team is committed to improving processes, supporting informed decision-making, and ensuring responsible stewardship of water and land resources to meet the evolving needs of British Columbians.
The Role:
Reporting to the Section Head, the Senior Authorizations Specialist drives decisions on complex water and natural resource applications under the Water Sustainability Act. This is an engaging role where you’ll lead impactful projects, navigate competing priorities, and help shape sustainable resource management through expert guidance and sound decision-making.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association.
Professional Registration and Certification Requirements:
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration (within six (6) months of employment), as a fully licensed professional with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area (i.e., Forest Professionals BC, BC Institute of Agrologists, Engineers and Geoscientists BC). Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
Related Experience must include:
- A minimum two (2) years of experience performing technical duties and working with the Water Sustainability Act in support of water management.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project or regional initiative.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience managing project teams.
- Preference may be given to those with a minimum of two (2) years of direct experience and/or education in hydrogeology and/or hydrology.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
- Must meet safety standards of WorkSafeBC.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position can be based in a Natural Resource Sector office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
