Description
The Team
The Employers’ Advisers Office (EAO) provides services to employers, independent operators, sole proprietors, partnerships, and employer associations on all aspects of the workers’ compensation system including compensation (claims), health and safety (prevention, workplace incidents and inspections, penalties), and insurance (employer registration and assessments).
The Role
Employers’ Advisers research and interpret the Workers Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and applicable policies to provide expert services to employers. Our services range from providing inquiry-based advice and assistance, to more complex assistance involving representation services to employers at WorkSafeBC, the Review Division or the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Tribunal. The nature of our work is diverse and complex, requiring management of a high volume and demanding caseload, necessitating expeditious and precise decision-making and the balancing of competing priorities.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

University degree in a related discipline (i.e. law, psychology, human resources, occupational health & safety, etc.) or equivalent combination of education, training and experience (i.e. CRSP, CPHR, etc.).

Experience providing advice and assistance concerning various types of legislation, regulations, policies or procedures.

Experience researching, preparing and providing written or oral submissions, or legal arguments, to boards/tribunals/commissions or other regulatory bodies, OR
-
Adjudicating and writing decisions in an administrative law setting, OR
-
Conducting or representing parties at mediations.

Experience preparing and presenting materials for education or training purposes to audiences of 10 or more, in-person or virtually.
Preference may be given to candidates with:

Experience in occupational health and safety (prevention), disability/injury/claims management, assessments (insurance) or medical-legal review.

Experience with the BC workers' compensation system.

Fluency in a second language.

About this Position:

One (1) position available based in Kelowna.
Flexible work options are available; upon completion of training, this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
This position is excluded from union membership.
