Job Overview
The Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Officer is a key team participant in the delivery of the Integrated Pest Management program across the province. Compliance and Environmental Enforcement Branch IPM staff administer various aspects of the Integrated Pest Management Act and Regulation, including promoting, verifying, and enforcing compliance with the legislation by pesticide users and vendors, and managing complaints and concerns from the public. Our overall objectives are to promote risk reduction and protect environmental and human health impacts from pesticides. The IPM Officer position is responsible for making decisions affecting environmental quality, human health, First Nations’ interests, and the livelihoods of people working in the structural, forestry, industrial vegetation, agricultural, vector control and fumigation industries.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
• A Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Sciences, Agriculture, Forestry, Biology or applied science in an appropriate discipline with at least 3 years of experience related to Integrated Pest Management and/or the use of pesticides; or
• A Diploma in Natural Resource Management, Forestry, or Environmental Sciences and a minimum of 5 years of experience in Integrated Pest Management and/or the use of pesticides.
Related experience must include each of the following (preference may be given to those with a minimum of one (1) or more years of experience in any or all of the following):
• Experience in the areas of integrated pest management, vegetation management practices, and pesticide application techniques.
• Experience in environmental regulation and enforcement.
• Experience in working with external parties, such as industry and First Nations; and in communicating technical knowledge to the public.
• Experience using computer software, including word processing (MS Word), spreadsheet (MS Excel) and database management.
• Experience working with multiple projects or assignments.
• Experience in negotiation with staff and clients from a diverse background.
• Experience in liaison with environmental regulatory agencies.
• Experience with the interpretation and application of the IPM Act in British Columbia.
Provisos
• Must be willing to travel and meet the transportation requirements of the position (i.e., possess and maintain a valid BC Driver’s Licence).
• Must be willing to work occasional evening and weekends to represent the Ministry at public meetings and events.
• Must be physically able to perform field work, which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until 09/18/2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
This position can be based out of Nanaimo or Surrey.
Remote work is allowed, this position can work up to full time from their home in British Columbia subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
