The Team
The Immigration Programs Branch works with communities, employers, and partners across BC to support immigration pathways that meet regional needs. The team shares information, provides referrals, and delivers programs like the BC Provincial Nominee Program in a way that is clear and accessible. Different perspectives and experiences are valued to better serve people from a wide range of backgrounds.
The Role
As appointed under the Provincial Immigration Programs Act (PIPA) and exercising powers under PIPA, the Investigator equips the program to respond to cases of misconduct or fraud. The Investigator independently investigates and examines applicant files deploying investigative best practices to ascertain breaches of PNP guidelines and/or the Act and related regulations. The Investigator is relied upon to make compelling cases for regulatory action and decisions which may be subject to public scrutiny and/or requests for judicial review. The Investigator is responsible for conducting internal program compliance exercises and internal investigations as required.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Minimum three (3) consecutive years of recent (within the last five years) related investigative work experience in each of the following areas:
- Conducting detailed investigations in compliance and regulatory enforcement.
- Planning, initiating, and managing complex investigations.
- Developing and implementing project plans.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Five (5) or more consecutive years of recent (within the last seven years) related investigative work experience.
- Investigative work experience related to immigration and/or fraud.
- Experience developing and assessing business plans.
Proviso
- Travel is a requirement of the position.
- Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 driver’s license.
- Must undertake frequent local travel (BC Lower Mainland) and occasional travel to regional locations throughout the province of British Columbia.
- Work is performed in both a typical office environment and on location.

About this Position:
Two positions available as follows:
One regular, full time position.
One temporary, full time opportunity until September 2027.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to four (4) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
This position is excluded from union membership.
