The Team
The Health Professions Review Board (HPRB) is a small, collaborative team that supports an independent tribunal focused on fair and transparent decision-making in health profession regulation across BC. Staff work closely with a part-time Chair and a diverse group of Board members to deliver reviews of College complaint and licensing decisions that are objective, impartial, and grounded in principles of procedural fairness. The team is committed to inclusive, respectful service and recognizes the importance of accessibility, fairness, and consistency for everyone who engages with the complaint disposition, timeliness of complaint investigation, and licensing review process.

The Role
The Intake Officer is a central operational role responsible for screening, assessing, and processing all applications for review received by the Review Board Office. The Intake Officer works in a high volume environment that frequently involves sensitive health-related subject matter and emotionally charged interactions. The position requires strong judgment, composure, and exceptional communication skills. The position manages highly confidential, personal, medical, and investigative information in strict compliance with privacy requirements. The Intake Officer formats and finalizes all review decisions to ensure they are consistent with style and publication standards before publication to the CanLII legal database. The position also maintains the integrity of the Board’s case management system by entering, updating, and monitoring case data to support efficient workflow and informed executive decision making; and provides data analysis and statistical reporting, contributing to organizational accountability and helping identify trends that support planning and operational improvements.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Certificate or coursework in a related field and 6 months related experience; OR
  • Secondary School graduation (Dogwood, GED) and 1-year related experience; OR
  • Evergreen and 2 years related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
    • Related experience includes but is not limited to: Processing and managing intake files or applications in a high-volume environment and handling confidential information with discretion and sound judgment. Please refer to the attached Job Profile for additional related experience. 
  • Intermediate experience with word processing, Excel, case management applications, and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Minimum one year experience providing client service in a high pressure and/or adversarial environment.

Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following experience:

  • Communicating with members of the public in complex, emotionally charged, or high-conflict situations using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Working in a legal environment.
  • Working in an administrative tribunal, board, court, or other adjudicative, regulatory, or justice environment.
  • Editing and formatting documents such as affidavits.
  • Applying legislation and regulations.
  • Advanced use of MS Word, Excel, Teams, case management systems.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
