The Team 
GeoBC & Natural Resource Sector Data Services’ Decision Support Services section is a team of about 20 people passionate about the value that GIS and great data can bring to the public service. We provide business solutions built on geographic information, creating products such as maps (paper, pdf, online) and information products, to support decision makers in Government. We work collaboratively alongside negotiators and land and resource experts to support initiatives in reconciliation and land management. The Role 
The Forest Administration and Stewardship Team within Decision Support Services provides program support, maintaining critical datasets for forest administration along with legal and legislative maps.  In addition to their core work, The FAS team supports a wide range of clients across the natural resource sectors ministries.

As one of four Team Leads in the section, you share your knowledge and expertise with co-workers to foster an environment of continual business improvement. You build upon a solid foundation of GIS skills, project management and teamwork principles to deliver products in a fast-paced team environment. You work effectively with your team, while also independently managing projects and tasks.  You provide expert advice and guidance to technical and non-technical staff. You are a skilled analytical and strategic thinker, an effective communicator, and have an eye for streamlining processes in innovative ways.  You possess excellent time management techniques and thrive in a dynamic environment with evolving priorities. You provide excellent client service and support your team while operating in a complex organizational environment focused on complicated land management issues.  

Beyond the duties of the core portfolio, we desire to leverage the strength of the successful candidate to guide strategic projects and business improvements in their team and within DSS.  We are looking for a candidate who has attention to detail and process ensuring quality products within a legislative framework while also having an eye to process improvement and innovation. 

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements
 • Bachelor’s degree or higher in geomatics, resource management, geography, environmental science, or computer science or related area, AND/OR 
 • Diploma in geographic information systems, OR 
 • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered  
AND 
 • Minimum of five years of work experience supporting clients and/or project teams designing and developing spatial analysis solutions 
 • Minimum of five years of work experience in a role predominantly responsible for GIS analysis and mapping 
 • Minimum five years’ work experience using ESRI GIS products 

Preference may be given to applicants who have training, experience, and/or understanding of:     
 • Supervising and/or leading teams
 • Legal mapping, descriptions, and concepts
 • Forestry legislative tools and frameworks 
 • Data stewardship and data modelling
 • Scripting and automation
 • Web mapping and ArcGIS Online
 • Communicating with clients and coordinating and delivering system or process changes to stakeholders from various business lines  
 • Managing, developing, and applying effective data management to spatial data 
 • Optical remote sensing

This position can be based in any  Ministry of Water, Lands and Resource Stewardship office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
