The Team
The CFAS Team is an established, collaborative group made up of a Director, 2–3 CPA students, and 2 Financial Officers (FO 18s) who work closely together and with others across FRAS to prepare the Province’s monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and maintain key systems like the Chart of Accounts. This work has a direct impact on transparency and accountability by ensuring accurate reporting of the Province’s financial position, while offering valuable hands-on experience and mentorship—especially for those pursuing a CPA designation. The Role
This role is responsible for preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual CRF revenue and expense reports, maintaining the Chart of Accounts, supporting government reorganizations in reporting, and monitoring ministry spending to ensure budgets are not exceeded. The work directly supports transparency for citizens by contributing to the Public Accounts, providing clear and reliable information on the Province’s financial position. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Degree in business administration, commerce, public administration, accounting, financial management or a related field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience* in financial administration, OR
- Completion of a professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, or CMA) and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience* in financial administration, OR
- Enrolled or fully eligible for enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience* in financial administration, OR
- Diploma or a minimum of a completion of the first two years of a degree in: business administration, commerce, public administration, accounting, financial management or a related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience* in financial administration; OR
- Minimum of Level 2 of the BC Public Service Financial Management Certificate Program and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience* in financial administration; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
*Relevant experience in financial administration must include one or more of the following:
- Experience developing, implementing and interpreting financial policies and procedures.
- Experience preparing complex financial reports and/or financial schedules.
- Experience with financial analysis and forecasting, including variance analysis.
- Experience in preparing, developing and monitoring budgets.
- Experience preparing and modifying journal entries.
- Experience in implementing financial controls and working with financial systems.
- Experience auditing financial transactions and records and/or tax filings.
- Experience developing and preparing financial reconciliations.
Additional required experience:
- Three (3) or more years’ experience with complex spreadsheet applications and word processing applications.
- Two (2) or more years’ experience preparing complex financial statements, reports and/or financial schedules.
Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following:
- Experience developing, implementing and interpreting policy and procedures.
- Currently pursuing an accounting designation.
