Description

The Team
The Tax Appeals and Litigation Branch delivers an independent and impartial review of taxpayer appeals under a wide range of taxation and revenue statutes. The team works collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-impact environment, supporting fair tax administration while safeguarding public trust and the provincial tax base.

The Role
The Appeals Officer plays a critical role in reviewing complex tax appeals and making well-reasoned recommendations to allow, vary, or deny them. This role involves analyzing detailed legal and accounting information, engaging with taxpayers and their representatives, and contributing to decisions that may proceed to court and have significant financial and policy implications.

 

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Holds a Canadian professional accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA or CPA) and is a member in good standing. 
  • Several years auditing experience involving exposure to a wide variety of businesses and industries, including preparing financial statements and preparing or auditing personal and corporate tax returns.
  • Experience analyzing complex factual, business or legal issues.
