This is a restricted lateral posting open to employees who hold a BAND 4 base position.

Job Overview
The BC Coroners Service is responsible, under the Coroners Act, for conducting thorough, independent investigations of unexpected, unattended or unexplained deaths of persons in BC; and for issuing related recommendations, where appropriate, to assist in preventing future deaths and improving community safety and quality of life for all British Columbians.  The Unit Director manages the daily operations of a BC Coroners Service investigative unit. They lead staff, ensure death investigations are timely, accurate, and follow the Coroners Act, and work with partners to support culturally safe, trauma‑informed services while maintaining public trust.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

•    A degree in legal, health, social sciences or related fields plus three (3) years recent related experience, or
•    A diploma in legal, health, social sciences or a related field plus five (5) years recent related experience, or
•    An equivalent combination of education and/or related experience may be considered. 

Related Experience may include: 
•    Experience in operations management, policy development and program delivery.
•    Experience conducting crime scene investigations.
•    Experience working effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.
•    Experience gathering, synthesizing, evaluating and interpreting information from diverse sources.
•    Experience assessing risk and exercising judgement in a complex, public facing and demanding work environment.
•    Experience implementing quality improvement strategies.

Preference may be given to applicants with:
•    Experience as a Senior Coroner in British Columbia.
•    Experience working in a death investigation system as a Coroner or in a comparable role.

About this Position:
There are 2 positions available. 
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 4 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
Enhanced Security Screening will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
This position is excluded from union membership.
