The Team:
The Thompson Nicola District Development Services team is a collaborative group of technical experts and decision-makers who work closely with engineers, operations staff, and district leadership to keep projects aligned with safety, legislation, and long-term highway performance. From Development Technicians to the Provincial Approving Officer, the team blends strong technical insight with practical, on-the-ground knowledge, creating a supportive environment where partnership and well-informed decisions drive smart, sustainable growth across the region.
The Role:
The Senior Development Officer brings keen judgement and leadership to shaping development decisions that keep communities safe and highways flowing smoothly. Serving as a statutory decision maker, this role blends technical expertise with thoughtful collaboration, partnering with local governments, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders, to ensure projects meet legislation while supporting smart growth. With a steady hand on both program leadership and detailed application review, this position keeps the big picture in focus while guiding a talented team to deliver quality, well-informed outcomes.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent and a minimum of seven (7) years of directly related experience; OR
- Diploma from an Institute of Technology in a related discipline, with four (4) years of directly related experience; OR
- Degree in a related discipline and a minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in supervising staff and leading teams.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence and be willing to operate a ministry vehicle.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent full time position available.
This position is based in Kamloops or Merritt.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Kamloops and Merritt.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
