Description
The Team
Strengthening Abilities and Journeys of Empowerment (SAJE) Guides are located throughout the province and work in collaboration with SAJE Navigators, Team Leaders and other ministry staff as part of a province-wide team.
The Role
Under the supervision of the Team Leader, the SAJE Guide is a key point of contact and resource for young adults who have left the care of the ministry. SAJE Guides support young adults in their transition to adulthood by providing continuity of service, a connection to a broad range of adult government, community and cultural supports and services, and access to financial supports post-19 years of age. SAJE Guides collaborate with community partners to support young adults to consider and plan for their future goals, and support the management and updating of the SAJE plan. Travel is a requirement of the position, as SAJE Guides meet in-person with young adults who are located in neighboring communities within their assigned region.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Minimum diploma in an identified human services field (Psychology, Social Service Worker, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Theology, Indigenous Studies, Education, or Nursing, or other related discipline).
- Minimum of 1 year of recent (within the last 3 years) experience working with vulnerable youth (age 13+) and young adults with complex needs including issues of substance abuse, mental illness, homelessness, or youth in or formerly from ministry care.*
* Experience as a Social Program Offer Assistant (SWA 15) is eligible experience for the SPO 21, but experience as a Team Assistant (Clerk 9) is not eligible.
Additional Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e., from another Canadian Province).
Preference may be given to applicants:
- With 2 or more years experience working with vulnerable youth and young adults with complex needs including issues of substance abuse, mental illness, homelessness, or youth in or formerly from ministry care.
- With experience working with youth or young adults with intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, and their families.
- With lived experience as a youth in care with the Ministry.
- With experience working with youth or young adults in and from the care of MCFD or Indigenous Child and Family Service Agencies (formerly known as Delegated Aboriginal Agencies).
- With experience in the use of virtual technology (MS Teams, Skype, Zoom, etc.) to deliver services and sustain meaningful engagement with youth, young adults, and families.
- With experience in planning, coordinating and hosting presentations using traditional and modern training methodologies.
- With experience in successfully engaging Indigenous children, youth, families, communities, and other Indigenous partners.
- Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until July 20, 2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
This position is geographically restricted to Abbotsford.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and/or permanent vacancies. Temporary offers made from the eligibility list may become permanent.
Flexible work options are available and will follow divisional/program area directives; this position may be able to work from home up to 3 days each week subject to an approved telework agreement.
