Job Overview
The focus of this Licensed Land and Resource Specialist role is on natural resource management, including forestry management issues within the Campbell River Natural Resource District. This position may support local implementation of the old growth strategic review through forest landscape planning, and lead partner and stakeholder engagement on several local planning projects.

This position bridges environmental, social and economic disciplines of natural resource management to advance policy, Ministry priorities and strategies, and operational delivery of stewardship outcomes. The Land and Resource Specialist will work with a diverse project team of multidisciplinary specialists across multiple agencies and is responsible for the management, coordination and delivery of strategic initiatives from initiation through to conclusion. This position deals with complex natural resource issues involving multiple stakeholders and First Nations and may lead engagement on several projects.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a natural resource management related field AND a minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a natural resource discipline; OR
  • Technical Diploma in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) AND a minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a natural resource discipline; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and seven (7) years of related experience may be considered.

Related Experience includes each of the following:

  • Recent (within the last five (5) years) experience working in natural resource management in a direct, matrix or project management environment.
  • Recent (within the last three (3) years) experience in a multiple stakeholders and partners environment understanding perspectives, conflicts and facilitating/developing solutions. 
  • Recent (within the last three (3) years) experience related to First Nations consultation, collaboration and/or relationship building with Indigenous communities in British Columbia.

Preference may be given to those with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience with geospatial analysis and data.
  • Recent (within the last five (5) years) experience managing technical and/or professional staff in natural resource management in a direct, matrix or project management environment.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must possess or be willing and able to immediately obtain (within six (6) months of employment) a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures.
  • To keep current on emerging issues.
  • To take in-house training and certification as required.
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available in Campbell River.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Campbell River.
