The Team
The Campbell River Forest District thrives on a blend of teamwork, individual expertise, and a commitment to delivering exceptional results. Our District is made up of specialist teams that provides expert advice and decision support related to the multiple business areas in the district. The Indigenous Relations team plays a critical role in supporting engagement with First Nations as experts on the legal and procedural requirements of First Nations consultation. The Role
The Senior Advisor, Indigenous Nations Relations examines controversial proposals of high economic value for use of natural resources on Crown Land and determines the impact on First Nations’ identified or potential traditional use areas. This position carries out consultations and negotiations to address First Nations concerns and supports the development of solutions to natural resource related conflicts. The Senior Advisor supervises the Indigenous Relations team and provides advice, support and training to other staff and teams that engage with First Nations within the Campbell River Forest District.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
● Bachelor’s Degree or higher in resource management or other relevant discipline and 3 years of related experience; OR
● Technical Diploma in a natural resource management related field and 5 years related experience; OR
● An equivalent combination of education and 7 years of related experience may be considered.
Related Experience (gained within the last five years) must include the following:
● Experience leading consultations/negotiations with First Nations on natural resource related decisions.
● Experience working with First Nations communities and facilitating engagement with Nations.
● Experience participating in mediation, meeting facilitation and/or supporting negotiations.
Preference may be given for one or more of the following:
● Experience working with natural resource authorizations (e.g. forestry, mining, land, water, wildlife).
● Experience in supervising, leading, coaching, and mentoring staff.
● Experience managing multiple projects and assignments.
Willingness statement
● Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence.

About this Position:
There is one permanent position available in Campbell River.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home up to 2 days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
