The Team
Castlegar Community Corrections is a well trained, established and dynamic team of both young and mature Probation Officers as well as an established administrative team that are the support centre for six Probation Officers, one Senior Probation Officer, and one Local Manager. Our team works directly with individuals accused or convicted of offenses, providing supervision, support, and programs that encourage accountability and positive change.
The Role
Under the direction of the local manager of a community corrections office, the Senior Probation Officer directly supervises probation officer 14s or probation officer 24s on a training plan. This position provides mentorship to direct reports, monitors training through the administration of training plans, assigns work and manages workflow for direct reports. This position provides risk assessment case management guidance to all probation officers within the office. The senior probation officer has broad responsibilities to support the local manager in hiring, operations and community partnerships. In addition, the senior probation officer carries out the roles and functions of a probation officer as required.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (4 years: 120 credits) from a recognized Canadian institution.
- Two years or more experience as a full working level probation officer in a Canadian jurisdiction, a combination of community corrections related program or policy analyst work, projects or training may be deemed equivalent.
- Valid class 5 BC driver’s license, a class 7 may be considered.
Provisos /Willingness statement(s)
- Travel to other geographic locations may be required.
- Evening or weekend work may be required for operational reasons.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until March 2028. This position may be extended or become permanent.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work 1 or more days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) and Enhanced Security Screening will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
