The Team
The Castlegar Community Corrections team is a close-knit group of probation officers committed to making a meaningful impact in their community. This well-established team works in strong partnership with local justice and community organizations, playing a vital role in advancing new program areas and staying at the forefront of developments in the justice field. The Role
This role helps keep a community corrections office running smoothly by providing friendly, respectful, and confidential support to clients, staff, and the public. This position is the point of contact—welcoming people from diverse backgrounds, including those who may be facing challenging situations, and helping connect them with the right services in a safe and inclusive way. The role also involves keeping client information accurate and up to date in electronic systems, while handling sensitive records with care and attention to privacy. The Office Assistant supports a positive, organized workplace by managing day-to-day office tasks and contributing to a team that values safety, inclusion, and respect.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary School graduation and six months of related experience working in a clerical, secretarial, receptionist or administrative support role;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
  • Minimum keyboard speed of 30 words per minute.

Preference may be given to applicants that have:

  • Preference may be given to applicants with more than six months of related experience working in a clerical, secretarial, receptionist or administrative support role;
  • Preference may be given to applicants with completion of a post-secondary certificate, program or course in office administration;
  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience working in an office setting providing services within the Justice System (Court Services, Correctional Centre, BC Prosecution Services, Youth Justice, legal office, justice focused non-profit);
  • Preference may be given to applicants with a valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s license without restrictions or an equivalent Canadian driver’s license. A valid BC Class 7 may be considered.

Willingness:

  • Willing to serve adult clients who may have multiple legal, health, social, and/or mental health needs and/or clients who have committed or alleged to have committed criminal acts including intimate partner violence or sexually motivated offences.

This position has full time on-site requirements.
This position is part time (0.5 #FTE, 35 hours biweekly)
An eligibility list may be established to fill both current and/or future permanent, part time vacancies.
A Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) and Enhanced Security Screening will be required.
