.The Team
The Fish and Wildlife team is an established group of dedicated professionals responsible for key decision‑making under the Wildlife Act. With 11 staff working within a broader business unit of nearly 30, the team monitors wildlife populations, assesses biological risk, and provides science‑based advice to support sustainable harvest opportunities. Their work directly shapes permitting and authorizations, creates hunting, angling, and trapping opportunities, and contributes meaningfully to both local and provincial economies. In this role, applicants will collaborate closely with aquatic habitat biologists and other specialists who share a commitment to responsible resource management and conservation.

The Role
This 18‑month term role offers the chance to step in as a Small Lakes Fisheries Biologist and play a meaningful part in shaping the Omineca region’s growing fisheries program. The position’s core responsibilities include providing decision support for fish‑related authorizations, conducting small‑lake fisheries assessments, and managing the regional stocking program, along with other duties that support healthy freshwater ecosystems. Your work will directly contribute to creating and enhancing freshwater angling opportunities for the public, making a tangible difference for the communities we serve. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in biological sciences or related field.
• Minimum four years of related fisheries experience (or an acceptable combination of education and experience), including field-based biological sampling, analysis and reporting, and providing advice within a regulatory regime.
• Registered (or eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology (CAB) within six months of employment. Eligible is defined as possessing, at the time of application, a designation equivalent to the CAB’s RP Bio in another jurisdiction and being able to transfer it to BC within six months of employment.
• Minimum four years of related fisheries experience assessing and monitoring natural resources.
• Must possess and maintain a valid British Columbia Class 5 driver's licence.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

• Experience in recreational fisheries, stock assessment, and fisheries management.
• Experience in assessing, analyzing and recommending stocking prescriptions for stocked lakes.

About this Position:
There is a temporary opportunity until Dec 17th, 2027. This temporary opportunity may become permanent.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
