Job Overview

The Ministry of Forests has a mandate to manage specified Crown land and resources in a manner that embraces the economic, environmental and social goals of government. These results are all essential to improving the global competitiveness of BC industry and our ability to attract private investment and to stimulate economic growth and job creation across the province.
This Land and Resource Coordinator role supports, facilitates and coordinates engagement discussions on wildfire risk reduction and related activities with a wide variety of stakeholders and partners within the Campbell River Natural Resource District. The successful candidate works in diverse teams, gathers and manages complex natural resource data, completes analysis and develops options, provides advice to statutory decision makers, resolves complex stewardship issues and supports land/resource management decisions.
You possess the ability to draw conclusions on complex technical issues, using advanced analytical reasoning and judgement skills. You have strong written and oral communication skills, exercising professionalism, tact and diplomacy to industry clients, external agencies and management. In addition, you possess the ability to effectively liaise with other industry clients, government agencies, First Nations, the public and diverse public interest groups.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

•    Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Forest Technologist with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
•    A Technical Diploma in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) or an equivalent combination of education/training.
•    One (1) or more years of experience working in a natural resource discipline.
•    Experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project.
•    Demonstrated experience in managing, building and maintaining co-operative and productive partnerships and effectively negotiating and consulting with multiple/concurrent external stakeholders and partners.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following: 
•    Directly related operational experience, which may include wildfire risk reduction, ecosystem restoration, and/or silviculture.
•    Experience in harvesting field practices, multi-phase development, including site plan creation and/or integrated resource management.

Proviso
•    Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
