Job Overview
To provide supervision and licensed professional oversight for the Forest Landscape Planning team in Strategic Initiatives in the Thompson Okanagan Region including managing staff and financial resources, managing stakeholder relationships, applying legislation, policies and professional standards in a consistent manner, participating in provincial policy development, and overseeing program delivery and technical and professional projects.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) or an equivalent combination of related education/training, plus three (3) or more years’ experience working in a natural resource discipline.
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester with the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals (ABCFP). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the ABCFP within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
- Experience managing technical and/or professional staff in natural resource management.
- Experience in negotiating/mediating solutions with a variety of internal and external parties.
- Experience with and knowledge of public consultation processes dealing with natural resource management issues.
Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
- Collaborative program/project leadership experience related to forest resource or environmental management, land administration or planning.
- Progressive resource management experience (e.g. Forests, Range, Research, Natural Resource Science), reflecting increasing levels of responsibility and complexity.
- Progressive experience in identifying priorities, allocating and managing human and fiscal resources reflecting increasing levels of responsibility and complexity.
- Experience leading programs and projects in a variety of settings, creatively resolving conflicts/issues involving multiple interests, and working effectively with internal and external stakeholders and collaborating with First Nations.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until July 16th, 2027.
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Forest offices: Kamloops, Vernon, Penticton, Merritt, Clearwater, Lillooet.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work a few days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
