This is a restricted lateral posting open to employees who hold a Grid 2A base position

Job Overview
To provide professional advisory services to the South Island Forest District stewardship program. The primary roles of the Stewardship Forester are the delivery of the Forest and Range Evaluation Program (FREP) and the review of Forest Stewardship Plan (FSP) submissions from major licensees. The position requires a significant component of field work, often in remote locations.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by Forest Professionals BC (FPBC).

Related Experience may include:

  • Experience in consulting with partners and stakeholders in natural resource management.

Professional Registration and Certification Requirements:

  • Registered or immediately eligible for registration as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) in BC with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.

Preference may be given to those with one (1) or both of the following:

  • Experience reviewing, writing, or implementing Forest Stewardship Plans.
  • Experience with forest mensuration, including field data collection and measurements of stand attributes.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have a valid BC driver’s licence.
  • Meet safety standards of WorkSafeBC.
  • May be required to operate a variety of equipment.
  • Willingness and ability to conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

About this Position:
Amendment June 18th, 2026: posting closing date extended to June 29th, 2026.
There is currently one (1) temporary, full time opportunity available to March 31st, 2027 in Port Alberni.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Port Alberni.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
