Job Overview
Reporting to the Senior Licensed Authorizations Officer within the local natural resource district office, the Licensed Authorizations Officer provides professional advice and may make decisions regarding the allocation of resources and adjudication of resource applications, with a focus on Land Act authorizations.
This position falls within the Forest Tenures department and also supports Forest Act determinations. Responsibilities include providing professional advice to Statutory Decision Makers for FLTC, cutting permit, and SUP issuance, in addition to the Land Act authorization work described above.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Degree in the natural resource field, or equivalent, as recognized by Forest Professionals BC (FPBC).
- Registered or immediately eligible for registration as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) in BC with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
- Related and recent (within the last three (3) years) experience working in natural resource management.
- Recent (within the last three (3) years) experience engaging with First Nations and/or stakeholders.
Professional Registration and Certification Requirements:
- Registered or immediately eligible for registration as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) in BC with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid BC driver’s licence.
- Willingness and ability to conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available in Port McNeill.
This location receives a $47.18 bi-weekly isolation allowance.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Port McNeill.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
