This is a restricted lateral posting open to employees who hold a Grid 21 base position

Job Overview
In the capacity of a wildlife biologist, implement and support wildlife management. The wildlife biologist provides professional and technical expertise to support management of natural diversity of wildlife species and their habitats. Key activities include recommendations to support statutory decisions, operational planning, science-based standards, monitoring and technical reports, lead and/or support projects which may include management of contracts.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in biological sciences or related field and one (1) year of related experience; OR
  • Diploma in biological sciences or related field and three (3) years of related experience.

Professional Registration and Certification Requirements:

  • Registered, or immediately eligible* for registration, as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) or registered as a Registered Biology Technologist (RB Tech) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biologists (CAB). 
  • * “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the registration process with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
  • Valid British Columbia Class 5 driver's licence.

Related experience must include the following:

  • Experience in wildlife management including field-based biological sampling, analysis and reporting.
  • Experience interpreting and applying natural resource management legislation and policy.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following: 

  • Experience with standard wildlife inventory methods (participated, led, or designed big game inventory (e.g., deer, elk, bears, moose, goats))
  • Experience with wildlife chemical immobilization (participated or led big game captures with or without chemical immobilization (e.g., corral trapping, net gunning, darting, foothold traps); participated in big game chemical immobilization(s) as part of a handling crew; worked as lead darter/net-gunner for ground-based or aerial-based big game captures; worked as lead for chemical immobilization(s) on big game with a handling crew; or participated in chemical or physical restraint handling on wildlife that were not considered big game).
  • Wildlife chemical immobilization certification.
  • Valid Possession and Acquisition License.
  • Successful completion of the Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Program.
  • Successful completion of the Trapper Education Program.

Willingness Statements

  • Must be willing and able to physically carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
  • Must be willing and able to conduct field work in all weather conditions and environments, including travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in camp conditions and operation of a variety of equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 4 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
