Job Overview
The Provincial Drought Operations Coordinator provides a critical role in provincial drought preparedness and response, acting as the liaison between natural resource regions, ministries, Indigenous governments, external partners and agencies, special interest groups and the public. The position coordinates the delivery of technical information, provides support to statutory decision-makers, drafts communication and guidance documents, and ensures consistency in successfully implementing the B.C. Drought and Water Scarcity Operations Plan. The position is accountable for providing expert advice, developing and delivering programs, and fulfilling other responsibilities conferred through legislative and regulatory authority.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Master’s Degree (or higher) in natural resource management, engineering, geoscience, environmental science or geography plus two (2) or more years of *related experience; OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in natural resource management, engineering, geoscience, environmental science or geography plus three (3) or more years of *related experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
*Related Experience must include the following:
- Experience managing projects and leading interdisciplinary project or operational teams.
- Experience addressing complex water resource and associated environmental issues and problems, developing options and strategies, and proposing solutions to decision-makers.
- Experience engaging, consulting or collaborating with a variety of partners and interest groups for the purposes of educating, informing and providing advice and guidance on complex issues.
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
- Experience in natural hazard response or emergency response.
- Experience in the development of operational procedures, legislation, regulation or policy.
- Experience managing and mitigating conflict and developing approaches to build consensus.
Additional Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air, or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Travel throughout province to assist with Water Management Branch objectives.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) temporary opportunity available until December 24th, 2027.
This temporary opportunity may be extended or become a permanent position.
This position can be performed from multiple communities and the location of the position is negotiable.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to three (3) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
