The Team
The Smithers Community Corrections team is an established group of dedicated professionals who bring enthusiasm, compassion, diligence, and a positive approach to their work. The team includes a Local Manager, an Office Manager, and Probation Officers, and works closely with a sister office while fostering a supportive environment where colleagues look out for one another, take initiative, and value diverse perspectives and experiences. Together, the team partners with RCMP, Crown Counsel, First Nations, and regional and municipal organizations to support clients involved with the criminal justice system. Through intervention work, programming, and meaningful referrals, they help individuals make positive and lasting changes while contributing to safer, more inclusive communities.
The Role
As a Senior Probation Officer, you will play a key leadership role in supporting and developing probation staff while helping to deliver effective community corrections services. This position provides coaching, guidance, and training to probation officers, fosters collaborative relationships with community partners, and supports hiring and operational activities within the office. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (4 years: 120 credits) from a recognized Canadian institution.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a full working level probation officer in a Canadian jurisdiction, a combination of community corrections related program or policy analyst work, projects or training may be deemed equivalent.
- Valid class 5 BC driver’s license, a class 7 may be considered.
Related Experience may include
- Two years or more experience as a full working level probation officer
Willingness statements or provisos
- Travel to other geographic locations may be required.
- Evening or weekend work may be required for operational reasons.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 1 day at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
