Workforce, Accountability, and Governance

Reporting to the Associate Deputy Minister, the ADM leads the Workforce, Accountability and Governance (WAG) Division to increase access to affordable, high quality child care, and achieve world-leading educational outcomes.

In addition to leading all legislation and governance work for the ministry, the division takes a particular focus on the adults in the system – leading efforts to support, align, and regulate the various professions that enable the success of the child care and K-12 systems in BC. The division is responsible for leading labour relations and workforce development planning for the K-12 and child care sectors.

The ADM maintains strong partnerships with other ministries and a range of sector partners, labour leaders, First Nations rightsholders and Indigenous organizations to deliver impactful outcomes and ensure ministry and corporate goals are achieved. The ADM represents the Ministry and government on a variety of issues through committees and at public forums at the provincial, national and international levels. The ADM is a part of the ECC Executive team and helps to steer the strategic direction of the ministry and to supporting the ministry to understand and fulfill its responsibilities under the Declaration of the Indigenous Peoples Act and Action Plan.

The successful candidate is an active enabler of innovation and engagement as keys to maintaining and enhancing public trust and confidence. This candidate demonstrates foresight and understanding of our modern, digital context to better service citizens, while being proactive, resilient and nimble, taking thoughtful, calculated risks. The appointee will remove unnecessary complexity to deliver the best possible service and outcomes for citizens., while improving the corporate capacity, capability and commitment of the public service.

The candidate for this position will possess significant experience in understanding the structures, processes, legislation, policy development, and practices across government as well as support at Cabinet Committees and in-House debates. The candidate will have a strong record of briefing experience with ministers and senior officials. Understanding the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act and Action Plan commitments, this candidate will take leadership in supporting the ministry in fulfilling its responsibilities. Furthermore, this candidate will demonstrate knowledge of business planning, change management, accountability processes and performance management systems, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to devise strategic and innovative approaches to issues are requirements for this role.
