The Team

The Role
The Assistant Deputy Warden participates in the leadership of the centre in maintaining safety and security, including authorizing use of force and implementing life-saving strategies in the event of emergencies. In the absence of the Deputy Warden, the Assistant Deputy Warden acts as second in command of the centre.

The Assistant Deputy Warden also participates in working committees to develop strategic policy concepts and supporting documents. Assistant Deputy Wardens lead teams in the following areas: Sentence Management, Staffing, Standards, Regulations, and Programs. This position directly supervises Correctional Supervisors working in these program areas.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

• Grade 12 or equivalent.

• Two (2) years’ experience leading people in a large, complex, safety sensitive and dynamic work environment; or four (4) years related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training may be considered.

The following may be considered as an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, but may not be limited to: 

• Three (3) years’ experience gained working in a leadership position within a government environment with two (2) years of related experience; OR, 

• Three (3) years of other related experience with a related post-secondary education degree/diploma.

Related experience is, but may not be limited to:

• Experience with operational environments, development and/or implementation of strategic plans, projects and/or initiatives, and program analysis. 

• Experience in leading teams and committees involving other stakeholders. 

• Experience with human resources supervision and labour relations in a unionized work environment. 

Preference may be given to a candidate who has the following education/experience:

• Post-secondary related degree or diploma consisting of one or more subject matter areas of study: criminology, business, criminal justice/legal, behavioural science, or related discipline. 

• Working in a correctional environment with both remanded and sentenced populations. 

• Working for, or cooperatively with, corrections allied partners/agencies, including health, sheriffs, crown/legal counsel, police, indigenous organizations/leaders, and community corrections.
