The Team
The Indigenous Relations team leads strategic policy, partnership, and engagement work that supports the Ministry’s commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. Working across government and with Indigenous communities and organizations throughout the province, the team helps shape initiatives, provide advice on Indigenous relations, and advance collaborative solutions to complex priorities. The team values respectful relationships, diverse perspectives, and meaningful engagement to help achieve positive and lasting outcomes.

The Role
As the Indigenous Relations Director, PAIR, you will lead strategic policy and initiative development that supports the Ministry’s reconciliation commitments and priorities. You will provide leadership on complex issues, foster collaborative partnerships, and help ensure Indigenous perspectives are reflected in decision-making.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Five (5) years experience covering a combination of the following critical mining related areas: mine permitting, mine exploration and development, environmental assessments, strategic and transboundary issues, key government priorities or politically sensitive issues, and policy and process development and implementation.
  • Five (5) years experience in increasingly complex, leadership positions requiring treasury board submissions, policy and procedure implementation, process revitalization, Indigenous Nations engagement or consultation.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Negotiations experience, working for the Province, within the last five (5) years related directly to the mining sector.
  • Five (5) years experience successfully building effective working relationships with a broad spectrum of stakeholders such as senior representatives of public/private sector, Indigenous communities, and community/special interest groups.
  • Five (5) years experience in increasingly complex, leadership positions requiring treasury board submissions, policy and procedure implementation, process revitalization, Indigenous Nations engagement or consultation. 
  • Five (5) years experience providing leadership to professional employees and working effectively with private companies, associations, and Indigenous Nations.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any Ministry of Mines and Critical Minerals office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Remote work is allowed, this position can work up to full time from their home in British Columbia subject to an approved telework agreement. 
This is a one (1) year temporary opportunity. This position may be extended or become permanent.
