Job Overview
The District Operations Technician reports directly to the District Operations Manager(s).This position maintains and updates the ministry infrastructure inventory system (specifically the corporate highway & resource information systems (CHRIS), assists in the administration, overseeing and monitoring/auditing of the road and/or bridge maintenance program, ensures work carried out by the contractors is in accordance with the contractual agreements, delivers and monitors a variety of special projects and new initiatives that change depending on the mandate for the district office, manages ministry resources such as the gravel pit inventories, manages the district sign program, discusses work plans and administers portions of the maintenance contract audit process and provides information to resolve complaints and problems with various stakeholders/public using a high level of customer service skills.  

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Dogwood, GED or Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC)) and 3 years *** related experience; OR
  • Diploma from a recognized Institute of Technology (e.g. Applied Science Technologist and Technicians of BC) or degree in a ***related field of study and a minimum of 1 year ** related experience.
    • ***Related field of study” is defined as civil or structural engineering, construction technology, surveying, geology, geography resource management or project management.

***Related experience must or may include each of the following:

    • Experience in civil engineering
    • Experience in contract management.
    • Experience in bridge maintenance.
    • Experience in construction.
    • Experience in project management.
    • Experience in traffic management.
    • Experience in highways experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver’s license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

  • Transportation and infrastructure related experience.
  • Completion of the Road Area Manager, BCIT program.
  • Who have completed 4/6 courses (one course must be AMRC 2016 MOT Highway Maintenance Agreement) from the Road Area Manager, BCIT program.
  • Experience with DFAA (minimum one event) or working in a highways environment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e., from another Canadian Province).

This is a temporary opportunity until Janury 15, 2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
