The Team:
The Agricultural Land Commission works at the intersection of agriculture, land-use planning, policy, and public service. Together, they support decision-making that helps protect BC's agricultural land, review land-use applications, engage with local governments, First Nations and other partners, and promote compliance with legislation. Through their diverse expertise and collaborative approach, the team helps ensure the Agricultural Land Reserve remains a vital resource for future generations.
The Role:
As a senior leader at the ALC, the Director, Policy and Planning is at the centre of some of British Columbia's most important land-use decisions. Reporting to the CEO, this role provides strategic leadership on complex applications, policy development, legislative initiatives, and governance matters, while building strong relationships with government, Indigenous, and community partners. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence issues of provincial significance and help safeguard one of British Columbia's most valuable resources - the Agricultural Land Reserve.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Post-secondary degree in land use planning, resource management planning, policy planning or other related discipline such as geography, agricultural/rural studies, public administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive senior management experience or leader of staff attaining a senior manager level in a planning, regulatory or policy analysis/development environment and/or dealing with land use planning in a public or private sector organization.
- Experience developing and implementing new legislation, regulations, or policies.
Preference may be given to those with one (1) or more of the following:
- Experience in Land Use Planning.
- Agricultural sector experience.
- Business and strategic level planning.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid BC Driver’s Licence.
- Some travel is required.

About this Position:

There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position is located in Burnaby.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Burnaby.
This position is excluded from union membership.
