Description
This is a restricted lateral posting open to employees who hold a Grid 21 base position.
The Team
The Mineral, Oil and Gas Revenue Branch is responsible for the effective financial management and administration of the Mineral Tax Act, Mineral Land Tax Act, Petroleum and Natural Gas Act, Petroleum and Natural Gas Royalty and Freehold Production Tax Regulation, Net Profit Royalty Regulation, Energy Resource Activities Act, Fee, Levy and Security Regulation (BC Energy Regulator, Production Levy), and the Mine Inspection Fee Directive.
MOGR’s mandate is to calculate, verify, collect, audit and report the Crown royalties and freehold production taxes payable by the mining and petroleum industries.
The Role
The Senior Audit Analyst is part of a team responsible for review, processing and audit of credit programs available under oil and gas statutes. It also reports on audit findings and may establish evidence supporting offences under oil and gas royalty and tax statutes administered by the branch to optimize royalty and tax revenue to the province.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Completion of a Diploma or Degree in the field of Business Administration, Financial Management or Accounting.
- An equivalent combination of education, related experience and/or training may be considered.
- Four years of related experience, which includes the following:
- Conducting desk audits that are subject to critical scrutiny from royalty taxpayers, ministry staff and external auditors;
- Resolving matters of dispute (objections to assessment, audit procedures, legal interpretations);
- Managing relationships and resolving complex issues with multiple partners;
- Working with financial management systems;
- Interpreting and applying legislation, regulations and policy in complex situations; and
- Operating MS Word and Excel at the intermediate level.
Preference may be given to applicants who have:
- Experience with royalty administration.
- Experience in the oil and gas sectors.
