Job Overview
As an Authorizations Specialist - Water, you will report to a Section Head/ Senior Authorizations Officer and work in various settings to provide technical advice on resource allocation and authorizations. Your contributions will play an essential role in ensuring responsible and sustainable management of British Columbia’s water resources through the implementation of the Water Sustainability Act. 

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in the resource management field, PLUS two (2) years of related experience; OR,
  • Diploma in the resource management field, PLUS four (4) years of related experience; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

Related experience must include all of the following:

  • Two (2) years of experience working in natural resource management.
  • Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.
  • Experience consulting, negotiating, and resolving conflicts with First Nations and various stakeholders in natural resource management.

Preference may be given to those with one (1) or both of the following:

  • One (1) year of experience performing technical duties and working with the Water Sustainability Act in support of water management. 
  • Experience in consulting, negotiating and resolving conflicts with stakeholders in natural resource management 
  • Experience and/or education in hydrogeology and/or hydrology.

Willingness Statements

  • Willing and able to conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
  • Willing and able to operate field equipment (i.e., quad, snowmobile).

This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Water, Lands and Natural Resources offices: Campbell River, Courtenay, Nanaimo, Duncan, Victoria, Surrey, Port Alberni, Chilliwack, Squamish
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work 2 or more days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
