The Team
The Region 4 Paralegal team is a well-established, close-knit team that fosters a supportive and collaborative work environment. Working alongside Crown Counsel, Paralegals, Legal Assistants, Senior Legal Analysts, and others, this team plays a vital role in advising government and police on criminal law matters, developing policies, and upholding the prosecution of criminal offences in British Columbia. Guided by the Crown Counsel Act and the BC Prosecution Service’s policies, this team’s work significantly impacts the justice system, contributing to public safety and fair legal practices. The Role
The Senior Paralegal is a subject matter expert and team leader who provides specialized legal and operational support to Crown Counsel in the preparation and management of criminal prosecution files, including complex, high-profile, and sensitive cases. The role involves reviewing and analyzing extensive evidentiary materials, identifying disclosure issues, preparing legal summaries, coordinating witnesses and victims, conducting legal research, and organizing evidence for court proceedings. In addition, the Senior Paralegal provides functional leadership to Paralegal teams by coordinating workloads, supporting training and onboarding, and acting as a resource on disclosure practices, case management, and technology. The position requires strong analytical skills, sound judgment, leadership capability, and the ability to work effectively with justice system partners in a fast-paced and demanding environment where accuracy, timeliness, and public confidence in the justice system are paramount.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Secondary school graduation and completion of a recognized Paralegal Certificate or equivalent;
- Five years of experience working in a legal office environment with preferred experience working in a criminal justice setting;
- Preference may be given to those with at least two years of experience working as a Paralegal; preference may also be given to applicants with at least one year of experience working as a Paralegal within the BC Prosecution Service;
- Experience leading teams or supervising staff, including allocation of work, performance appraisals, etc. Minimum of one year of experience is preferred.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
