The Role
As a Planning Forester, you’ll play a key role in analyzing and producing data to support the development of comprehensive resource and operational plans, particularly the Forest Stewardship Plan. You’ll be responsible for ensuring that planning strategies align with legislative, consultation, and certification requirements while collaborating with field professionals in timber development, harvesting, engineering, and silviculture. Building strong relationships with Indigenous Peoples, resource partners, and Ministry contacts will be a rewarding and essential part of your role.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- A Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or be eligible for registration as an RPF with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) and two (2) years of experience in operational field forestry activities.
Operational field forestry activities include the following:

- Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
- Cut-block development
- Forest road engineering
- Silviculture
- Timber tenure development and administration
- Planning integrated resource management
- Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
- Directly related planning and integrated resource management experience.
- Experience working with Indigenous Peoples.
- Coursework or experience in contract or financial administration.

About this Position:
This position is located in Terrace.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill temporary and permanent vacancies.

Professional Designation: YES - You must be registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: "Immediately eligible for registration" means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
Applicants currently registered, or eligible for registration within six (6) months of employment, with FPBC as an Allied Science Forester in Training (ASFIT) or Forester in Training (FIT), may be considered for this position at the Licensed Science Officer 1A level.
