This is a restricted lateral posting open to employees who hold a Grid 21 base position

Job Overview
The position is responsible for supporting the geomatics program by providing specialist advice for the branch to ensure the delivery of services in support of geospatial technologies, business and program objectives.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Diploma in geographic information systems or in a resource management field such as geography, biology, agriculture, environmental science or other related field plus 2 years of related GIS experience.

Related experience includes:

  • GIS-related experience
  • Experience capturing, converting, creating, editing, and maintaining digital information in a GIS environment.
  • Experience creating/working with a variety of digital, geographical, and descriptive products including thematic maps, terrain models and associated descriptive statistics.
  • Experience working with Arc GIS online, python

Preference may be given to candidates with a combination of, or all, the following:

  • Experience in Automating or scripting solutions using tools such as Python, or other programming languages (e.g. java script), FME, SQL.
  • Experience in emergency management or natural resource management.
  • Project management experience.
  • Web-mapping experience using GIS tools such as ARCGIS or QGIS or other GIS software platforms.

  • To take in-house training and certification as required.
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
  • To travel and/or overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence. (if relevant for position)

About this Position:
This position can be based in any Ministry of Forests office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
There is 1 (one) permanent opportunity and 1 (one) temporary opportunity for 6 months, that may be extended or become permanent.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
