Job Overview
Allowable annual cut (AAC) determinations are a key determinant of the social, economic and environmental state of the province. The Provincial Timber Supply Review (TSR) program provides the Chief Forester with all the information that is legally required to be considered in determining an allowable annual cut (AAC) for each of the province’s timber supply areas and tree farm licences.
This position interprets, synthesizes, and documents significant resource analysis processes and decisions to enable statutory decision makers to make robust, legally defensible, and timely decisions regarding timber supply in the Province of British Columbia. This position focuses on planning and coordinating Indigenous engagement to support timber supply reviews and forest inventories, ensuring that engagement meets legal requirements and advances provincial goals of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, and is consistent with relevant provincial legislation. Changes in the provincial AAC can significantly affect local employment in logging and processing, impact Indigenous rights and interests and the overall economic activity in the province. As a result, the Timber Supply Review program and the AACs set by the Chief Forester are frequently subject to intense First Nations and public scrutiny.
