The Team:
The Stuart Nechako Forest District team plays an important role in managing the sustainable use of Crown land and natural resources across a diverse and resource-rich region of north-central British Columbia. Working closely with First Nations, local governments, industry, stakeholders, and partner agencies, our team delivers integrated resource management, authorization, stewardship, and compliance services that balance economic opportunities with environmental and cultural values. Through collaborative problem-solving and informed decision-making, our team helps address complex land and resource challenges and supports positive outcomes for communities, the region, and the province.

The Role:
The Licensed Authorizations Officer plays a key role in managing Crown land and natural resource authorizations within the Stuart Nechako Forest District. This position leads the review and adjudication of a wide range of resource applications, provides expert advice to decision-makers, and works closely with First Nations, industry representatives, stakeholders, and government partners to address complex land and resource issues. Combining technical expertise, sound judgement, and strong relationship-building skills, this role helps balance diverse interests while supporting sustainable resource management and stewardship objectives.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by Forest Professionals BC (FPBC).

Related Experience may include:

  • Related experience working in natural resource management.
  • Experience in supervising, leading, coaching, and mentoring staff.

Professional Registration and Certification Requirements:

  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) in BC with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid BC driver’s licence.
  • Willing and able to conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

About this Position:

There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position can be located in Fort St James, Mackenzie, Prince George or Vanderhoof.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in the above locations.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
