The Team:
The Permitting Transformation Division (PTD) First Nations Relations Team supports land, water, and other natural resource decision-making by coordinating meaningful, transparent consultation with First Nations under the Province’s duty to consult. Our work strengthens long-term relationships with First Nations and supports consultation processes that are clear, consistent, and responsive to the rights and interests of First Nations. Through effective communication and collaborative problem-solving, we help inform statutory decisions that honour provincial responsibilities, reflect shared stewardship values, and contribute to economic certainty and prosperity for communities and the Province.

The Role:
The Advisor, First Nations Relations provides essential support to consultation processes related to natural resource authorizations. Through careful research, precise documentation, and collaborative engagement with First Nations and Ministry partners, the Advisor helps ensure consultation is thorough, consistent, and aligned with government policy and agreements. This role strengthens relationship focused practices and contributes to robust, well informed statutory decisions.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

• Degree related to the natural resource sector (e.g., forestry, resource management, agrology, environmental science), or,
• An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.

Related Experience may include:

• Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues.
• Experience working with First Nations’ communities and collaborating and consulting with First Nations.

Preference may be given to those with one (1) or more of the following:

• Operational experience in a natural resource field (lands, water, forestry, range, ecology, biology).
• Experience leading consultation processes with First Nations.
• Experience leading consultation processes with First Nations in areas of natural resource or environmental management.
• Experience in managing multiple projects and assignments.

Additional Requirements:

• Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
• May be required to operate a variety of equipment.
• Conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

About this Position:

There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available in the South Area (100 Mile House, Alexis Creek, Castlegar, Cranbrook, Grand Forks, Invermere, Kamloops, Kelowna, Merritt, Nakusp, Nelson, Penticton, Quesnel, Revelstoke, Vernon, Williams Lake).
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in the above locations.
