Description
The Team
The Regional Operations Coast Area team supports the effective management, administration, and oversight of forest resources and timber revenue programs within the forest district. The team works closely with licensees, consultants, surveyors, ministry staff, professional foresters, and regional specialists to ensure forestry activities comply with legislation, policy, technical standards, and provincial requirements. The team’s work combines technical forestry expertise, field inspections, compliance and enforcement, revenue protection, quality assurance, and operational program delivery, often requiring collaboration across a range of stakeholders and work environments.
The Role
The Resource Revenue Specialist – Residue & Waste Coordinator plans, administers, and evaluates the district’s Residue & Waste, Timber Cruising, and timber appraisal programs to support accurate timber valuation, regulatory compliance, and protection of provincial revenue. The role reviews and approves technical submissions, conducts office checks and field audits, investigates discrepancies and non-compliance, provides technical guidance to licensees and surveyors, and ensures programs are delivered in accordance with legislation, policy, and established measurement procedures. The position also oversees quality assurance activities, maintains program and revenue records, supports appeals and investigations, manages contracts and budgets, and supervises Resource Technicians. The role combines technical forestry and analytical work with decision-making, stakeholder communication, staff leadership, and extensive fieldwork, including travel to remote locations and working in challenging weather and terrain.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a natural resource field and 6 months of related experience; OR
• Diploma in a natural resource field and 1 year of related experience; OR
• Certificate or coursework in a natural resource field and 3 years related experience; OR
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered; AND
Related experience includes:
• Experience in assessing timber harvesting performance and methods
• Experience in compliance and enforcement with respect to licences, acts and regulations
• Experience in basic forestry measurement techniques such as traversing, cruising and scaling
• Experience in basic assessments related to the Forest and Range Practices Act
• Experience in mapping
• Experience in using computer hardware and software
Preference may be given to applicants with 1 or more of the following:
• Valid Interior Scaling License holder
• experience in mapping
• Registered, or eligible for registration as a Registered Forest Technologist with the Association of B.C. Forest Professionals. Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
