Description

The Team
The Financial Management, Policy and Compliance Branch is an established team that plays a key role in supporting the Ministry’s financial stewardship and accountability. The branch provides expertise in financial planning, budgeting, reporting, policy development, financial systems support, debt and financing management, revenue and accounts management, facilities management, and financial oversight of several Crown corporations. As the Director, Financial Strategy and Decision Support, you will lead a small, collaborative team that works with diverse colleagues across the ministry and Crown corporations, fostering an inclusive and respectful environment where different perspectives are valued and contribute to strong financial oversight and informed decision-making for British Columbians.

The Role
As the Director, Financial Strategy and Decision Support, you will provide senior financial leadership and expert advice to program areas, major projects, and Crown agencies across the Ministry. In this role, you will lead the development of long-term financial strategies, frameworks, policies, and processes that support sound decision-making, accountability, and effective stewardship of public resources. This is an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively with diverse partners, champion inclusive leadership, and support the Chief Financial Officer in ensuring the Ministry’s finances are managed responsibly, transparently, and in alignment with legislative requirements and best practices.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Considerable (minimum of four (4) years) related experience in each of the following:
    • providing tactical and strategic advice to senior leadership on key financial issues to inform/influence executive decision-making including creating and presenting briefing documents and other financial reports
    • working with the Financial Administration Act and the Budget Transparency and Accountability Act
    • experience working with complex accounting issues in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including new and emerging guidance
    • assessing financial performance and risk management of significant and multifaceted programs/projects
    • planning, initiating and implementing change processes
    • interpreting legislation
    • progressive leadership experience including leading diverse teams of specialists, professionals and external resources
    • supervising management and unionized staff

About this Position:

There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available in Victoria.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Victoria.
